How to use your iPhone or iPad on Linux Ubuntu

With the release of iOS 7, Apple has improved the security not only with the activation iOS 7, but by incorporating a USB security criterion. This last security problem for many users (myself included) Linux, preventing up or manage their iPhone or iPad on Linux distributions Ubuntu / Linux Mint / Fedora ...

The issue in question
When connecting an iPad / iPhone iOS 7 to a PC running Ubuntu Linux, iPhone asks if you trust this computer. Selecting "rely" on the screen of your iDevice and finally Linux can not mount the partition of the iPhone that asks loop if you trust this computer ... a story to make goat everyone!

Fix the problem on Ubuntu
According to the bug report on this issue on Launchpad, it is possible to break the cycle and properly mount an iDevice iOS 7 on the Ubuntu desktop.
The solution is to install a deb file libimobiledevice2 version 1.1.6. The disadvantage is that this version is not fully stable yet but works in the majority of cases (including myself) on Ubuntu 12.04 with the latest Ubuntu 14.04.

The source code for the latest versions of libimobiledevice is available on GitHub. Simply download libimobiledevice according to the 32 or 64-bit version of Linux and install it.

Download libimobiledevice2_1.1.6 + git20140213 for amd 64 bit
Download libimobiledevice2_1.1.6 + git20140213 for 32-bit

for your iPhone or iPad iOS 8, it will install version 1.1.7 of libimobiledevice available for download here.
After installing the package, restart the PC and connect your iPhone or iPad to the PC and select "rely" on the screen of your iDevice.

It is possible that one or more error messages but then you should be able to access content from your iDevice.

If you are still having problems after installing the package, you can take a look at the bug report filed on Launchpad.
Feel free to leave a comment if it works for you ... or not.
